Residents and Fellows
Postgraduate global health opportunities at Stanford
We value the perspective that postgraduate trainees such as medical residents and postdoctoral fellows bring to Stanford’s global health community.
We offer many avenues for involvement and support, from events to grants to clubs and other networking opportunities.
Programs and Offerings
Internal Medicine Global Health Residency Track
Gives select medical residents an understanding of overarching issues in global health. Residents rotate through Internal Medicine departments and participate in a Social Medicine rotation serving the homeless population of Santa Clara County. They also have dedicated time for research with underserved populations around the world.
CIGH Global Health Scholars
This program supports residents or fellows committed to working overseas in low-technology settings. We provide funding for trainees who will be an asset to the staff at the receiving location and support or add to the services provided. Global Scholars are not mere observers in the host location.
Stanford/Yale Global Health Scholars
Selected residents and career physicians serve six-week rotations at one of our mentored sites. Rotations focus on clinical experiences, service, and teaching. Scholars receive a travel award ranging from $3,000 – $4,000 based on their site assignment.
Stanford Global Child Health Travel Scholarship
For Stanford pediatric trainees and clinical medical and MSPA students committed to improving the quality of life for children around the world.
GLobal Health equity Scholars
12-month mentored research training program for post-docs, upper-level PhD students and professional school students. Sponsored by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and a consortium of universities.
Global Health Research Methods Workshop
A two-day workshop for physician residents, fellows and medical students interested in developing research skills applicable to global health.

The opportunity to work alongside Rwandan residents and medical students from multiple different countries while in Kigali solidified my interest in global health medical education and led to incredible professional and personal growth. Brainstorming diagnostics in our resource-limited setting with my team, picking up nuanced physical exam skills from my attendings, and modifying my bedside teaching to meet the scope of the trainees with whom I worked were some of the many invaluable experiences I had at CHUK, all of which made me a stronger clinician educator.
